For Those of You Who Thought You Have Seen The Last of Shihan Mihiranga

This is going to be - well, depending on your opinion - really good/bad news. Sirasa is going to show the send-offs from its highly talked about show Sirasa Super Star on Friday March 3rd at 9.30pm. I am not sure why Sirasa suddenly decided to repeat the clips of the contestants' last appearance on SSS but I am very curious why they want to show it now.

There are four contestants left, so why not wait another three weeks before showing all the guys who didn't win? And most interesting of all, is that in the promotional trailers for the upcoming show on Friday, the contestant featured most prominently is Shihan Mihiranga, who was surprisingly sent off (I no longer use the phrase "voted off" because I don't believe that's what happens on SSS) on Sunday February 26th. That's what - four days ago? So does SSS now regret sending him off? Are they trying to pacify several thousand fans who want to see more of him? Let's face it - he's the type who would appeal to a lot young people and would have a rather large fan base.

What is really going on with SSS?

Just think about this...

From the start many people accused Sirasa TV for the way they handle the "Sirasa Superstar".

Yes I too agree how bad the 3 Judgers treated our people with their hart breaking comments.

Have you seen the American Idle show? If you compared the two shows Sirasa is faaaaaaaaar better than American Idel.

I guess Sirasa Superstar is a copy cat of American Idel and the 3 Judgers tried to imitate at the beginning of the show but later on they acted professionally.

Since this programme started in a bad way most of the people started hating the programme but were inquisitive as to what would the final be. So it got so popular and on Mondays when people go to officers, schools, etc. Sirasa Superstar is the talk of the day.

So what I am guessing is that, lot of people started writing articles about how bad this programme is and later it turned to writing articles of how Sirasa is helping Shihan. This was all because they hate this programme. So when everyone of us see all these articles we too start to feel a sympathy towards the other Contestants. This made lot of people to stop Voting for Shihan and vote for others.

So ultimately it's our own people that made rumours and took Shihan out of Sirasa.

Just think about this too. The SMS Voting System is made up of Sirasa and Dialog, where I assume when we SMS our Voting the Dialog people send the Count for each phone no to Sirasa. So naturally the Dialog Engineers and any body else who deals with that know the results.

So I don't think Sirasa could fool others. If they are fooling I am sure it should come to the limelight from within Dialog.

The SMS Voting system includes Dialog as well as Suntel and the phone-in votes on 114-620062, so there are more than three different methods of voting for contestants in this show. I have posted regarding the validity of this system earlier as well because an SMS I sent to the Suntel number was tagged "Not Sent" in the delivery report and when I called that number on Saturday night itself, I heard a message saying the number was not in use!! Since both Dialog and Suntel are in this, it is doubtful that either would know the total amount of votes as Sirasa would obviously calculate the total at their discretion!!

Regarding Shihan Mihiranga - come on, you have to be blind not to notice how SSS and Sirasa tried to shove him down our throats earlier on in the competition. Having said that, I do agree that he is the best all rounder in the show and possibly would have been the eventual winner - had he not been sent off last week.

And yes, I do watch American Idol. I don't think SSS can even be compared to it because it's in a different league altogether. AI appeals to the American audience in general (hence the advanced stage settings, hip young host and live audience in a live telecast). Have you not noticed that whenever a singer performs on SSS, the judges and the singer/band are never shown in once scene? It's only after he completes the song that he is shown next to the judges. Previously to this, the camera stops scanning the room about two inches away from the judges desk - is it because there are no judges in it? Because there is no live audience, how do we know that the singers are asked to sing several different versions in addition to the one sung before the judges?

There are too many issues about SSS that prevent me from accepting it as a "reality" show. Had it been produced and presented in an honest manner, it really would not have mattered. But like I said in an earlier post, when SSS asks the public to spend Rs. 11/50 on an SMS vote and tell them to vote for as many singers as they like, they might as well go the distance and take the voting seriously instead of trying to manipulate the show only as a money making machine for M Entertainment!!

Not all American Idol winners have had lucrative record sales - example Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Burrino - I bet you haven't even heard of them. That's because they were voted as American Idols by the public based on their personality, singing ability and perfomance skills and not selected by the producers of the show!!

i have seen the singer, band and the judges in one TV Frame, but however I haven't seen the viewing public together with the singer.

So I guess its legitimate. Also I would like to mention that singing is not the only thing that should be considered when voting, we should chose a super star who can sing, make use of the stage and perform in such a way that the audience would want to stay watch.

just a singer who stands in one place, and makes inappropriate moves, and who does not have any rythm in hid body is not a super star, but just a good singer.

Well i think that sirasa super star is ok but come on if u compare it 2 pop idol or american idol those r far much better.

They could improve it alot .

I really hope that Malith gets fully recovered fast and he will ne his normal self again and that Shihan will get the place in Sirasa SuperStar final 4 .

Good Luck Shihan

my point of view is super star should have evry thing meaning not only singing, performance ,etc.... when considering last 5 people malith and shihan is the best !! why i said was outof other 3 people, 2 people have only base voicers and they never had their performance etc.

yah, vote for Shihan cos I think he is the "SuperStar" out of the others....

if we wanted to chose the one with the best voice, we could have had a radio competion where only the voice of the singer is heard and we can vote accordingly.

as far Iam concerned only Shihan comes close to the fact of becoming a super star... therefore all the best for him..

shihan is singing very nicely i like his voice very much.

well i thimk shihan iz quite cool. i mean he knws that dis competition iz not only about the voice, but about the looks and how u get the whole country in ur hands by the way u perform!
i'm sure that even hez out of the competition nw,
he is DEFEINETLY gonna sell more albums than the superstar!!

I also think to be a super star a voice is not enough and the that person sould be able reatain viewers infront of the TV. Shihan has that ability and he deserve for it and even some people hate him just because of his look most of people are love to him and want to see him more than others. Anyway now he is out from the program but he will be more popular than super star beacause he already created lot of fans over him.

Wish you good luck Shihan.
