So What if We Didn't Win?

I toyed with the idea of staying up late to watch the Sri Lanka vs South Africa match after the South Africans were zooming in on the set target (210). Man, am I glad watched it!

Longer video clip can be viewed here.

So what if we lost by just one wicket? Malinga made it the best match in the World Cup so far and I still can't believe he took four wickets in four consecutive deliveries. Outstanding!! That's the optimistic in me, by the way. Hope Mahela learns from his mistake(s) and the team crushes the WI on Sunday.

CEB Power Crisis and the World Cup

Unconfirmed reports state Sri Lankan cricket fans consumed an estimated 28.7 giga watts of electricity on Wednesday - when Sri Lanka played Bangladesh. The match started late in the evening and went on till the early hours of Thursday. Any bets on how much electricity will be consumed during today's match between Sri Lanka and India?

More on SL cricket, looks like joy rides are still part and parcel of the game for some people. I found the following quite amusing:

""Various requests have come from SLC, the Ministry and other quarters. There is an unknown female in the tour party. We don’t know from where she is. We only know the contact from which she has come,” sources added."

More Bad Jokes and Other Deleted Nonsense from Wiki

Some gems included in a hilarious list of deleted Wikipedia posts :

From U2:
"Pretentious and utterly tedious, the band has re-recorded their first hit single "Gloria gloria over and over again" many thousands of times with different titles and a new chord here and there, thus acquiring an enormous and enormously dim fanbase. They are politically wanky in human rights causes.

Bono hasnt got to be the non biggest dipshit--dead alive! Don't look at that schnoz...and those glasses neither! He shouldn't get AIDS, it couldn't only disprove his music."

From the Beatles page:
"the beatles started out from being born as the head of a 4 headed billy goat. they were worshiped by many peeps until they discovered they could sing""

From a (now deleted article) titled Veggie:
"A freakin' vegetable. Learn English."

From George W Bush:
"Born as a baby to a family of wildebeasts, George started to make his life in the jungle at a early age. Through hard times in the jungle, he survived by moving in with a family of sloths where he became good at hanging on trees for long periods of time. He also learned how to become a terrible president. Bush moved to Zaire and fell in love with a handsome rhino named laura. He than moved to the united states and became president."

From Birds:
Birds go "GAW GAW!" which stands for "God Always Wins! God Always Wins!", which shows that birds do praise God and indeed go to heaven, in accordance with His divine providence. And don't even try and tell me this is wrong, because my freshman year theology teacher said it was true, and you wouldn't call an 80 year old retired Marine Officer and now a Benedictine Monk a liar, would you? Huh? Would ya, punk?

Government Orders Cover-Up

Looks like they are pretty serious about this one too:

"Sri Lanka banned on Wednesday the use of naked or semi-naked models in advertising, saying it was seeking to protect those offended by public nudity."

I have yet to meet anyone (male or female) who is actually offended by public nudity. Sure, they may gasp, grimace and avert their gaze but are they really offended?! Hah, I think not.

Anyway, what's with this ridiculous ban? Are postcards and posters of the oft-mentioned Sigiriya frescoes going to be censored with a black marker (Mid-Eastern style) or banned completely?! Enough with these Victorian laws already! Get a life, you prudes!

No More Parathas....

Here's some sobering news for people(myself included) who like Indian food:

" A new research has found that Western food is a lesser evil than the Indian bhatura or parathas. Digest this — while the trans-fatty acids (hydrogenated oils and fats) in French fries (per 100 gm) is 4.2%-6.1%, it is 9.5% in bhatura, 7.8% in paratha and 7.6% each in puri and tikkis. " (link)

Well I'll be.......here I was thinking that I had significantly healthier eating habits than my mates who head to Macs and other fast food joints every chance they get!

Cat Parasite Can Make You Crazy

I read about Toxoplasma gondii during the weekend and couldn't believe it. If Kevin Lefferty's research is true, it would certainly explain a great deal about my family....

"Research has shown that women who are infected with the parasite tend to be warm, outgoing and attentive to others, while infected men tend to be less intelligent and probably a bit boring. But both men and women who are infected are more prone to feeling guilty and insecure."

Not So Subtle Ad

"Thought you might appreciate the subtlety of this ad, done by a Brazilian ad agency, for a lubricating gel (K-Y equivalent) targeting the French market. They were trying to come up with an ad that is not offensive or tasteless. The picture looks completely innocent until you notice the details... Oh, my God. Look carefully at the details. Apparently, it has created quite a buzz in Europe." Link

This is not subtle at all - or maybe I see things a little too easily ;)

Here's Malith Perera's new song/video - Rathu Mal Gaume (not really sure how to spell that word). It's obviously not shot in SL. India, perhaps?
