Playing Pandu in the Dark

We lost to the Aussies - again. This time it was in the World Cup final and the conditions in which the match had to be played could not have been worse.

First the rain, the delayed start and the rain again....we could not have asked for anything worse.

Then at the end of the match, as the Australian cricket team celebrated victory, the umpires decided three more overs had to be bowled - that was just too much.

During the SL innings in Barbados, here in Colombo the TAF decided to take a late-night flight over the city and attack a couple of oil storages in Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela, dropping four "explosive devices" during the attack. They could not have picked a better time.

Ranjith Fernando - Eat Your Heart Out

I'm not the only one who finds Ranjith Fernando (aka the worst cricket commentator to walk Planet Earth) annoying. There's a whole army of people out there who do - some even have started blogs that are just about how much they hate him.

Tomorrow's final is going to be ruined by this man's insane ramblings. I'm going to try and err.....come up with a way to somehow....to err.....watch it.

We Are in the Finals!

It was Mahela who made it all possible and kudos to the Sri Lankan captain for a job well done.

However, the most entertaining aspect of the entire match was watching Slinga Malinga in action:

Watch his amazing hat-trick in the SL vs SA match.

Kryptonite

It's real.

Found in a Serbian mine, the mineral matches the unique chemistry of Kryptonite - sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide - as described in the movie Superman Returns. Unlike the movie, it is white - not green - and will be named Jadarite later this year.

According to Dr Chris Stanley (a mineralogist at London's Natural History Museum) "it will react to ultraviolet light by fluorescing a pinkish-orange." Doesn't sound very threatening, does it?!

Fracture - Movie Trailer

Fracture stars Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. It's on my list of "must see movies" this year. I'm rather behind schedule when it comes to this years' list :(

Apparently this insect can make a loud hissing noise when it feels threatened. That would be a noise I would rather not hear in my lifetime....ever.

Baby One More Time - Marty Casey

For those of you who have not heard of Marty Casey (maybe because you missed Rockstar INXS back in 2005), this is for you. Unlike Ms Spears' version, this intense rocker twists the overplayed pop song into a rock ballad. Almost makes me forget the original...

The ONION - Hilarious Post by "Heston"

In this week's Onion Op/Ed, "Charlton Heston" rants about the good old days when he performed his own miracles while filming The Ten Commandments:

"Even though I am constantly telling interviewers and strangers at the grocery store how I turned my staff into a snake, which then ate the snake of Pharaoh's court magician, they persist with this "special effects" nonsense. I'm starting to wonder why I bothered shrinking myself down and assuming the form of a small infant so that I could be placed in a basket and floated down the River Nile when they could have just substituted a stunt baby and no one would have batted an eye.

What has happened to artistic integrity? Am I the only actor left who cares about his craft?"

So What if We Didn't Win?

I toyed with the idea of staying up late to watch the Sri Lanka vs South Africa match after the South Africans were zooming in on the set target (210). Man, am I glad watched it!

Longer video clip can be viewed here.

So what if we lost by just one wicket? Malinga made it the best match in the World Cup so far and I still can't believe he took four wickets in four consecutive deliveries. Outstanding!! That's the optimistic in me, by the way. Hope Mahela learns from his mistake(s) and the team crushes the WI on Sunday.

CEB Power Crisis and the World Cup

Unconfirmed reports state Sri Lankan cricket fans consumed an estimated 28.7 giga watts of electricity on Wednesday - when Sri Lanka played Bangladesh. The match started late in the evening and went on till the early hours of Thursday. Any bets on how much electricity will be consumed during today's match between Sri Lanka and India?

More on SL cricket, looks like joy rides are still part and parcel of the game for some people. I found the following quite amusing:

""Various requests have come from SLC, the Ministry and other quarters. There is an unknown female in the tour party. We don’t know from where she is. We only know the contact from which she has come,” sources added."
